Swedana therapy
Cooling herbal paste over the head — deep calm for stress, sleep and headaches.
✓ Prescribed by Dr. Gaurav Sharma after your diagnosis

Thalapothichil comes from Kerala's Ayurvedic tradition. Thala means head, and pothichil means covering. In this therapy, a cooling herbal paste is applied thickly over your entire head and held there for a set time. It is sometimes called a head pack — but it is a medical therapy, not a beauty treatment.
The paste cools the head, calms the mind and nourishes the scalp. As it sits on the head, the herbs work on stress, headaches and disturbed sleep. Patients often feel their head grow cooler and their thoughts slow down during the holding time. It is one of the most deeply relaxing therapies in Ayurveda.
In Ayurvedic terms, Thalapothichil calms aggravated Pitta and Vata in the head region. That is why it is used together for stress, sleeplessness, headaches and mental exhaustion — problems that often share the same root cause.
A cooling herbal pack over the whole head does what a pill cannot — it cools, calms and nourishes at once.
If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.
If stress sits in your head as heat, heaviness or restlessness, Thalapothichil may be right for you. Tell us your symptoms on WhatsApp.
Thalapothichil helps people whose stress shows up in the head — headaches, poor sleep, restlessness, or a mind that never rests. It suits professionals, students, and anyone whose head feels overheated or exhausted.
Thalapothichil is especially helpful when Pitta and Vata are aggravated in the head — the doctor confirms this during your diagnosis.
A typical session lasts 30–45 minutes.
Consultation first. Dr. Gaurav Sharma examines you, checks your dosha through Nadi Pariksha, and decides whether Thalapothichil suits you.
Preparing the paste. A fresh herbal paste is prepared, with herbs chosen by the doctor for your condition.
Applying the pack. The paste is applied thickly over your entire head.
Holding time. The pack stays on your head for the prescribed time while you rest quietly.
Washing off. The paste is washed off with lukewarm water.
Rest. You rest briefly before leaving. The cool, calm feeling usually lasts for hours.
Wear comfortable clothes and plan a hair wash after the session — the paste washes out easily.
At Adinath, the paste for Thalapothichil is prepared fresh for every session, with herbs chosen by the doctor for your condition. The therapist applies it evenly and checks that you are comfortable throughout the holding time.
Thalapothichil is sometimes combined with Shirodhara or a head massage when the doctor feels your condition needs a fuller plan. Your plan is reviewed as you improve.
Thalapothichil is cooling and gentle. The herbs are chosen for your condition by the doctor, and the therapy is fully external and painless.
Tell the doctor first if you have a cold, cough, sinus congestion, scalp wounds, or fever — the doctor will advise whether to wait.
