Gandush therapy at Adinath Ayurveda Hospital

What is Gandush?

Gandush is Ayurveda's oil pulling therapy. The word means holding a liquid in the mouth — and that is the whole therapy. A mouthful of warm medicated oil is held in the mouth for several minutes, then spat out. It is never swallowed.

As the oil is held and gently moved around, it draws out impurities from the mouth and nourishes the gums, teeth and jaw. The mouth is where digestion begins, so a clean, healthy mouth supports the whole digestive system. The jaw muscles, which hold a surprising amount of tension, also relax during the therapy.

In Ayurveda, Gandush mainly pacifies Vata in the head and jaw region. It is used for persistent bad breath, bleeding or weak gums, frequent headaches, dryness in the mouth, and jaw stiffness.

Why Gandush?

Gandush is one of the simplest therapies in Ayurveda — and one of the most underrated. A few minutes with warm oil does what mouthwashes cannot.

Simple and natural
No machines, no chemicals — just warm medicated oil, held in the mouth.
Strengthens gums and teeth
Regular Gandush nourishes the gums and supports the tissues that hold the teeth firm.
Freshens breath without chemicals
It clears the impurities behind bad breath instead of masking the smell with flavour.
Helps headaches and jaw stiffness
The jaw holds a lot of tension. Relaxing it often eases the headaches that come with it.
Supports digestion from the start
A healthy mouth is the first step of digestion. Gandush keeps that first step clean.

Are you facing any of these issues?

If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.

Persistent bad breath
Bleeding or weak gums
Frequent headaches
Dryness in the mouth
Jaw stiffness or tightness
Coated tongue in the morning

If your mouth never feels fresh no matter how much you brush, the problem is usually deeper than the teeth.

Who needs Gandush?

Gandush suits anyone who wants natural oral care — and especially people whose mouth problems keep returning despite brushing and mouthwash.

It suits Vata problems in the head and jaw — dryness, stiffness and tension. The doctor confirms it suits you before starting.

What's involved in a Gandush session?

A typical session lasts 15–20 minutes.

1

Consultation first. The doctor examines your mouth and general condition, and decides which medicated oil suits you.

2

Oil warmed, correct quantity given. The oil is warmed to a comfortable temperature and given in the quantity the doctor prescribes.

3

Hold the oil in the mouth. You hold the oil in your mouth for 10–20 minutes, moving it gently. You do not swallow it.

4

Spit out and rinse. You spit the oil out and rinse with warm water.

5

Guidance on home practice. The doctor may advise you to continue Gandush daily at home, and teaches you the correct oil, quantity and method.

6

Aftercare. Wait a little before eating, and brush gently afterwards if the doctor advises it.

The oil is never swallowed. If you feel you cannot hold it any longer, spit it out — the session does not need to be forced.

How do Adinath experts perform Gandush?

At Adinath, Gandush is prescribed by Dr. Gaurav Sharma after your diagnosis. The oil is chosen for your problem — a person with bleeding gums gets a different oil than one with dryness or headaches.

The therapist guides you through the first sessions — the quantity, the holding time and the technique — so you learn to do it correctly. When needed, Gandush is combined with other therapies as part of a complete plan.

Benefits of Gandush

Oral hygiene
Warm oil clears impurities from the mouth, keeping teeth and gums cleaner between brushings.
Fresh breath
It addresses the cause of bad breath instead of covering it up with flavour.
Healthy gums
Nourished gums bleed less and hold the teeth firmer.
Headache relief
Relaxing the jaw and head region often eases the headaches that come from tension.
Stronger jaw
The holding action gently exercises and nourishes the jaw muscles.
Less dryness
Warm oil counters the dryness that makes the mouth uncomfortable.
Better digestion start
A clean, healthy mouth is the first step of good digestion.

Is it safe? Does it hurt?

Gandush is completely safe and simple. The oil is never swallowed — you spit it out after the therapy.

Tell the doctor about mouth sores, loose teeth, recent dental work or a gagging tendency, so the oil and holding time can be adjusted.
