Upkalpana therapy
Warm herbal leaf poultices — targeted fomentation for painful, stiff areas.
✓ Prescribed by Dr. Gaurav Sharma after your diagnosis

“Patra” means leaves, and “Pottali” means a small pouch or poultice. In Patra Pottali Sweda, fresh medicinal leaves are heated in herbal oil, tied into small poultices, and pressed and massaged over one painful area.
Because the poultice is small, the herbal heat goes exactly where the pain is — a stiff neck, one sore shoulder, a single aching joint. The heat relaxes the deep muscles at that spot and improves blood flow there.
Localised pain and stiffness come mainly from Vata settling in one place. Pottali Sweda is a focused, Vata-calming therapy for pain that has one clear address.
When the pain is in one spot, the treatment should be in one spot too. Pottali Sweda gives herbal heat exactly where it hurts.
If any of these sound like you, this therapy was made for your problem.
If your pain has one clear spot, Pottali Sweda treats that spot directly.
Pottali Sweda suits anyone whose pain is localised to one area rather than spread across the body.
It mainly calms Vata that has settled in one place.
A typical session lasts 20–30 minutes.
Consultation first. The doctor examines the painful area and decides whether Pottali Sweda is right for you, and which leaves and oil to use.
Preparation. Fresh medicinal leaves are heated in herbal oil and tied into small poultices.
Temperature check. Each poultice is tested on skin before every application.
Application. The warm poultices are pressed and massaged over the painful area.
Duration. A typical session lasts 20–30 minutes.
Post-care. You rest and keep the area warm. Avoid cold air and cold water on the treated area afterwards.
Keep the treated area warm after your session, and avoid cold air and cold water on it the same day.
At Adinath, the leaves and oil in Pottali Sweda are chosen by Dr. Gaurav Sharma after Nadi Pariksha and your diagnosis. The poultice for a stiff neck is not the same as the poultice for a sprained ankle.
Trained therapists then apply the poultices with the right pressure and rhythm, checking the temperature on skin before every application.
Pottali Sweda is gentle herbal heat. Temperature is checked on your skin before every application, and the heat is kept soothing, never harsh.
Tell the doctor about skin rashes, open wounds, fever, or sensitivity to heat before the session.

It is for pain in one spot — a stiff neck, a sore shoulder, one aching joint, a sprain or strain. Small poultices of heated medicinal leaves are pressed over the painful area.
A typical session lasts 20–30 minutes.
The doctor decides after your diagnosis. A short course helps a recent sprain; longer-standing stiffness needs more sessions, reviewed as your body responds.
No — warm and soothing. The poultices are heated to a comfortable temperature, checked on skin before every application.
It is safe when done by trained therapists under the doctor's prescription. Tell the doctor about skin rashes, open wounds, fever, or heat sensitivity.
Rest and keep the treated area warm. Avoid cold air and cold water on the area for the rest of the day.
No. It needs fresh leaves, correct heating and trained hands. Heated poultices at home can easily burn the skin.
Wear loose clothing that leaves the painful area easy to reach, and come with a light meal. Avoid cold food and drinks just before the session.
Pottali uses smaller poultices for focused areas; Pinda Sweda uses larger bundles for wider regions.
